Leavers of 1992 Reunion
It was fitting that upon entering No. 1 Junior House, the first person I greeted was Mrs Lawrence, a Hereford Cathedral School institution and much loved for her dedication to the students who passed through the school. In many ways, for all of us who were educated within these walls, a return to HCS was also a return home. For myself, as a boarder between 1985 to 1992, HCS was both school and home. This is due to the staff who made an incredible contribution to students, such as myself, as we grew up. So a nod of respect and thanks to Mr Parker, Mr Rhodes, Mrs Lawrence and their families who worked tirelessly in making our formative years so special. But back to the present and to the twelve leavers of 1992, who travelled far and wide, to gather together to remember and renew friendships and exchange stories of the 80s and 90s. The anecdotes and memories flew like sparks. It was wonderful to hear about everyone’s adventures. Thank you to the Old Herefordian Club’s Development Office, led by Clare Morgan-Jones and Helen Pearson, the catering staff and members of the school teaching staff, both past and present, who turned up to reconnect with our year. It was truly heartwarming to see the school continue to thrive and expand. We also had the opportunity to meet and hear from the new Headmaster, Dr Micheal Gray, who took the time to be with us and share the vision for the school under his leadership - one where digital strengths and preparing for life after school will be a cornerstone of an HCS student’s journey. (Yes, I was paying attention at the back of the room….)The gathering ended with a wonderful dinner at The Green Dragon. We left the room in good spirits, walked across Cathedral Close, to another establishment for just one more for the road….or maybe two.Aaron Yip.1st July 2022Hereford
